Juice aka The Sun God hails out of Double S, Sunnyside Washington and sometimes Grandview depending on the social media site you check. He’s been putting out dope music for years. As far as I know he only had his solo release, The Sunrise, and the Young Ridaz CD, but as you can see he has plenty of underground music not to mention features galore on other NW albums. Would you just look at those old mixtapes, wow, that’s what dreams are made of right there! Haha. I’d love to be able to listen or even better have a copy! Maybe someday I’ll stumble upon them. Juice was generous and kind enough to share two songs from the Million Dolla Dreams mixtape on his Soundcloud page so I highly recommend checking them out! *Legendary & Million Dolla Dreams!

Here’s a 2013 review of “The Sunrise” on HipHopHotSpot.com:

Juice is a phenomenally talented artist. Through the use of a flawless delivery, well written rhymes, and raw intensity Juice proves he’s worthy of undivided listening attention & industry recognition. “The Sunrise” is an incredible album that is purely entertaining. The album is consistently top quality, never revealing any dips, or dull points. “The Sunrise” is a keystone piece to any fans collection.

The most notable songs featured on “The Sunrise” include “Chasin’ Dreamz”, “On The Road”, “Sexy Mamacita”, “Northwest 2 The Bay”, “Am I Bound for Death?”, and “Thank U Mama”. The best track featured on the album is “Sexy Mamacita”. “Sexy Mamacita” is a hit, & chart topping song. The song is fun, intensely smooth, catchy, and very appealing. The lyrics are well written, witty, and well delivered. The album also features other artists such as “Bullet”, “Baby Bush”, “Assassin”, “Young Droop”, “Todd G”, “Bill Yuns”, “Jazz”, and “The Four Young Ridaz”.

Songs such as “Chasin Dreamz”, “Am I Bound for Death?”, and “Thank U Mama” appeal to fans on a deeper level with serious subject matter & rhyme content. Fans love conceptual rhymes that are meaningful in the words expressed. Juice does a fantastic job at delivering this content, capturing the true spirit of his topic through his rhymes. It’s one thing for an artist to have enough talent to release a tight track, but its something else when an artist can take a topic, and express it perfectly to fans via his words & delivery. Juice is a multi-talented artist – no question. His strongest points are his rhyme writing ability, his delivery, and his intensity & ability to express feelings through his art.

The beats on the album are magnificent. It’s rare that an album is blessed with so many powerful beats. The beats hit fans hard, get the crowd moving, & snap necks back with head nodding rhythms. The beats are intense, and inspiring.

The album artwork is well put together. Evilwayz Graphics did an outstanding job with the creation of the artwork. The artwork & design burned onto the CD’s surface is very visually appealing, and definitely adds an extra element to the design. Hot eye candy Visuals always adds another element of professional to any album.

Critics will critique the fact that “Sexy Mamcita” is essentially featured four different times on this album. Hands down, there is no argument that this track is not one of the best songs fans will hear in their lifetime; however, there is a point to overkill. In all fairness, the occurrences of “Sexy Mamacita” are different versions of the song. The benefit of having an acapella, and an instrumental version is that DJ’s can create their own mixes with the song, and fans, if inspired can rap to the instrumental. Critics will claim that an instrumental & acapella is the wrong way to end a CD release, and, or it’s a reserved song format for vinyl; has no place on a CD version of a product. Fans don’t want to listen to acapella’s on CD releases; however, an instrumental is bearable, but ultimately, just as unappreciated. If the occurrences of “Sexy Mamacita” were kept down to the original & remix versions then critics wouldn’t have anything to critique. The good thing is that if this is your only critique on an album, then it’s no worries, because this can be corrected, and it’s really not that big of an issue. There are still fourteen amazing tracks on the album, each one worth your hard earned dollars, and you can always consider the acapella & instrumental as bonus material. In fact, maybe you’re inspired to write & practice your own rhymes over the instrumental or play the part of a DJ making mixes yourself.

Juice is extremely talented. “The Sunrise” is an incredible album that serves up no disappointments. The music is hot the whole way through. This is a mandatory listen.

Oldschool

Oldschool – Bomb Light Green (CDS) (Portland, 1999)

  1. Bomb Light Green featuring Mr. Mean
  2. Even Though I’m Ballin’

Not a lot to be found on this release or on Oldschool. Looks like this might be the only release from Oldschool even though the back insert says ‘From the up and coming debut album, About Makin’ G’s’. I certainly can’t find anything about that album on the ‘net so I wonder if it was ever released. Vocals on track 1 is Lee Robinson & Wazir Robinson who goes by Abdulious3 now. At one point Wazir mentions his cousin Mr. Mean who must be the only other vocalist in the credit for track 1 (Lee Robinson). Someone in Discogs linked Mr. Mean to Atlanta’s Mad Clique, but I’m not so sure it’s the same guy. If anyone has anymore information on Oldschool, please share in the comments!

B.C.U. (Brotha’s Cumin’ Up)

B.C.U. (Brothas Cumin’ Up) – Game / U Ain’t Mad (CDS) (Seattle, 1998)

  1. Game (Seatown Flava Version)
  2. U Ain’t Mad (Naughty Love Mix)

B.C.U. (Brothas Cumin’ Up) – The Approach (Seattle, 2002)

  1. The Spot (Radio Edit)
  2. The Approach
  3. Game (Remix)
  4. Do It Right
  5. You Ain’t Mad Is Ya’ (Radio Edit) Featuring Hollow Point

The challenging thing when trying to find these CDs or anything about this artist is that the search results are inundated with B.C.U. (Brothas Comin Up) from Milwaukee. Completely different. I’m glad I was able to scoop The Approach when I did. The Game CDS is my friends copy so I don’t actually own that CDS … yet. If anyone has a copy they’d like to part with, leave a comment!

So what I know about B.C.U., there are two members, Ron J and D-Hud, although their 1998 release shows four members. Unfortunately whenever I try to zoom in on the image it becomes blurry so I can’t make out any of the text. Bummer! The record company for “The Approach” is Come C Me Entertainment but no luck finding any information on them either. All the way around it’s tough to find any information about this Seattle R&B duo so if anyone can help out, leave a comment.

From Reverbnation: “Growing up in Brooklyn, New York has put Trama in a position to reach the fans of hip hop with his lyrical punch lines and well put together metaphors in his charming but gangsta-like swag. He has a group called Black Senate, which he is CEO and co founder. He currently has a distribution deal with the Warner Music Group. Trama is working on a solo album called Follow Suite, which is on Black Senate Entertainment. He currently has two mixtapes with Black Senate called The Seattle Project Vol 1 and 2. His latest solo project is called All Gas No Brakes, a mixtape featuring DOA” Apparently, Trama (James Jones) has one more album called, Honer Over Money that he has mentioned a few times and there’s this video but I’m not sure it was ever released. The Follow Suite Mixtape was on Datpiff back in the day, I’m not sure if that was considered the album referenced above or if that album did get released and I’ve just never been able to find it! The group Black Senate also has two other members, his brother D-Lo and Contajus. Finally, Trama also has a song called “I Run It” on a 2009 DJ Pheloneous Mixtape called, Something 2 Drive 2 Vol. 2. He’s also featured on a song called “Freaks Is Out” by northwest artist B-3 (B3 The Shark). Leave a comment if you know anything else about Trama!

Skrilla

Skrilla – Seattle Seahawks Featuring Scrooge & Big Telli (Tacoma, 2014)

  1. Seattle Seahawks

This following is an old school (2010-ish) bio on a Skrilla from the NW area. Also, all the links were dead in his bio so I didn’t link them up. $krilla is CEO and artist of Platinum Dream Records. He has been performing and recording hip-hop for over 7 years now. $krilla has performed all over the south sound and has plans to expand. $krilla is releasing his album the beginning of next year and has excellent plans for the future of his business. His captivating sound and energy separate him from the rest and his talents deserve to be listened too. Follow his links to hear his overwhelming sound.”

Check Out $krilla if ‘You’re Tired of Your Man Always Trippin’ at Home’ (PSM 2010 Interview series)

June 27, 2010 by Deborah Halasz

In the first of a series of profiles of featured artists from the Puget Sound Mixtape released on June 11, 2010; Examiner.com is privileged to share the talent of Gerald “$krilla” Beamon.

His song, “Seduction”, is track number 7 on the Puget Sound Mixtape, and tells the simple message of a girl needing the love and affection she isn’t getting from her man, and another man just waiting to give her what she needs.

$krilla is not new to the hip hop scene.  He has been performing for quite awhile across the Puget Sound, and he has learned that persistence is the key to perfecting his craft.  He shares “My most challenging show was the 1st all ages show I did at the old “Brick City” here in Tacoma.  It was me, my cousin Shadow, and my homie, Bounce.  We got booed, and any artist who loves what they do will agree that it is one of the worst feelings to experience”.  While first impressions can be damaging, $krilla continued to perform in Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia, Bremerton, Ocean Shores, and Portland.  His lyrics as both an emcee and a storyteller reflect the individuals who have inspired him:  Slick Rick, TI, Furious 5, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Run DMC, and others.  He also attributes his talent to his mom.  Of LL Cool J, he explains, “I have been working on my craft since the first time I turned on the radio.  I used to have this little red tape player that had a microphone on it, and I would play LL Cool J’s ‘I Need Love’ and sing along to it in the microphone.”  That craft began and continues to develop in Tacoma, his first song being “Work It from the Middle”.

$krilla is a somewhat new artist name for Gerald who originally went by the name Money.  In all his gigs, big or small, he always found a way to earn money.  It wasn’t too much of a jump, then, to create his current name $krilla, as he was determined to create a legitimate persona for all his fans and venues.  He has since brought his skill and talent into production with Platinum Dream Records, engineering with DKG Studios, promotion with Unconfined Promotions, and graphic design with Eagle Art Designs.  He is an entrepeneur as well as musician taking leadership of all these organizations.

In addition to $krilla’s contribution to the Puget Sound mixtape, he intends to release his first official album, “Likwid Sunshine“, later this year.  He will also be joining artists The Nuggz, Krucial Bars, Serious Mak, Shoalin, and others this summer during “The Calm B4 the Storm” tour.  The artists are expected to travel throughout Washington state and feature all forms of hip hop music.  Tour dates and locations can be found at $krilla’s myspace.

To learn more about $krilla, check out his myspace and his Reverbnation page. site.

Ebonie HyLyte

Ebonie HyLyte – Trunk Funk (CDS) (Seattle, 199x)

  1. Trunk Funk

So I’m not 100% sure this artist is from Seattle. Someone who used to find music for me on the regular once I moved away from the area found this with a batch of other Seattle CD’s so the assumption was this was a Seattle artist. It’s as home made as you can get, a TDK CDr and homemade insert, neither have any information. It’s definitely some cool ass funk, check out the sample! If anyone can clear up the mystery here, leave a comment.

Collin

Collin – Collin (Seattle, 1999)

  1. Tell Me
  2. My Heart
  3. What’s Going On
  4. Why
  5. On My Knees
  6. Thanks Interlude

Collin – Baby, Baby, Baby (Enhanced Promo CDS) (Seattle, 2001)

  1. Baby, Baby, Baby (Radio Edit w/o Intro)
  2. Baby, Baby, Baby (Radio Edit w/ Intro)
  3. Baby, Baby, Baby (A Cappella)
  4. Baby, Baby, Baby (Instrumental)
  5. Baby, Baby, Baby (Callout Hook)

Collin also known as Collin Peacock released this self-titled album in 1999. From there it looks like Collin was signed to Epic Records and released one single, “Baby, Baby, Baby”, for the 2002 Barbershop Soundtrack. From what I can gather it looks like Collin went in to the DJ business as DJ Collin Peacock. Check this from DJ Jeremy Productions, “Collin Peacock is not only a DJ, but a musician (and former Epic Records recording artist – Collin had his RNB track “Baby, Baby Baby” featured on the Ice Cube comedy film “Barbershop” soundtrack back in 2002) by trade, who has also spent years as an event manager for prestigious wedding / event venues such as The Ruins, Inc., in Seattle and the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event or a private party, Collin is always ready to guide the process from start to finish. You can preview a number of Collin’s DJ mixes below.”

DJ Collin Peacock Live at a San Francisco Corporate Event

You can also find some of DJ Collin Peacocks mixes on Mixcloud and more songs over on his Soundcloud page. Overall, Collin has dabbled in singing, song writing, DJ’ing and even acting. A quick google search will show a few of the TV shows/movies he has been in. Since his Seattle days it looks like he has moved on and is now residing in the bay area. If anyone knows of any other releases besides his self-titled and Baby, Baby, Baby single leave a comment!

T-Spade

Together We Stand (CDS) (Seattle, 2018)

  1. Willie Will, Only1Wizer, Eric Keith, Trama, Jazz Digga, M.A.R., D-Lo, T-Spade, Mike Day & Snap Gotti – Together We Stand

From T-Spade’s ReverbNation page, “Briefly, I am a humble and hard working artist who believes more in the artwork than what monetary returns may come from it. I make music that is “Real” to me and have a deep passion for my work. I’m most interested in spreading my music to the general public with hopes of gaining a larger following. I have no expectations, but only hope that people will give my music an honest ear and judge it in an unbiased manner.

I understand you have a wide variety of listening options when it comes to today’s Hip Hop Music, so I appreciate you lending an honest ear to my music and giving it a chance.

Feel free to add me to your friends/fan list, comment on the music and contact me if there is something you hear and want a copy of. I am also willing, and excited to work with any other artist that takes their music seriously and wants to collaborate!

I have been performing for over 13 years and would like to work with any promoters, venues or club owners etc. to build working relationships and help spread my efforts to a more broad community. I have plenty of videos on youtube.com and would love to get feedback on those as well. Simply visit youtube and search, “T-Spade”.

Thank you for your interest and support!

Besides SeaTac & Back and the star studded single “Together We Stand”, T-Spade has also been featured on LaMar Trenton’s Late Nights, Early Mornings (2010). I was lucky enough to find Together We Stand CDS but if anyone is willing to part with their SeaTac & Back album hit me up! It’s on my want list, unfortunately I only have the mp3s. Also, if this exists, “24-In-A-Day”, T-Spade’s 32-track mixtape which was supposed to be available online early in 2010, I missed out and I’m looking for that one too!

For everyone looking for SeaTac & Back or Together We Stand, both are on all major music streaming platforms so go grab a copy! Before I move on to some music that’s not on the two releases above, I have one question I’m still trying to figure out…. is T-Spade the same Spade from Da Savv or the Spade from Criminal Nation, maybe just going by a different name now?? If you can shed some light on that leave a comment!

Moving on to music, check out “Heaven Hold Me Down”, a favorite, not on his SeaTac & Back album.

T-Spade – Heaven Hold Me Down

It’s always cool when an artist shares more than just music with us, so check this two part interview! Although they’re older you won’t be disappointed.

The Enterpri$e is Mu’tazz (Tazzman) Diaab and Terrell (3rd Degree) Cannon. Tazzman changed his name to Diaablo for the Hood Upgrade CD and I’m assuming for the GrindAholics CD since the same picture is on the insert in Hood Upgrade as the front cover of GrindAholics (see more on GrindAholics/Past Present Future below the video). Also, the “City Of The Tac” CDS actually has “City Of Tac” on the back cover track list and CD.

The Enterpri$e – Northwest Pimpin

This dope song, Northwest Pimpin, is on the mp3 version of GrindAholics here, but it is not on the CD. Seems pretty interesting, I wonder the story behind that. You can also pick up the tracks for the mp3 version here. And really, this GrindAholics CD is probably better suited to be under Jezus Tha Truth aka 3rd Degree than The Enterpri$e. The cardboard sleeve cover has “Jezus The Truth – Past Present Future” and so does the CD. As you can see from the image I uploaded that is actually the back of the cardboard sleeve, hence the name “GrindAholics”. There isn’t any information about these Tacoma legends on the ‘net so if anyone knows more leave a comment!
